US May Halt Embassy Operations in Kyiv if Security Worsens, Says Rubio

by admin477351

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has indicated that operations at the United States embassy in Kyiv could be suspended if the security situation in Ukraine’s capital worsens. This potential move comes as part of a daily assessment of the safety of US diplomatic personnel amid ongoing tensions and conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Rubio emphasized that the current operational status of the embassy is continually reviewed, with a readiness to alter the diplomatic posture should the risks become unacceptable. This cautious approach follows repeated warnings from Russia about potential security threats targeting foreign diplomatic missions in Kyiv, which has been subjected to attacks during the conflict.

Despite these concerns, the US Embassy in Kyiv remains operational for the time being. However, Rubio noted that any increase in the threat level could prompt a reassessment of the embassy’s status. The safety of diplomatic staff remains a top priority for Washington as it navigates the complex security dynamics in the region.
