This collaboration leverages LG Innotek’s strengths in optical and precision engineering alongside TDK’s expertise in cutting-edge sensor technologies, aiming to enhance applications in robotics and physical AI.
The partnership is set to yield its first innovation, a vision sensing module equipped with an inertial sensor, by 2027. This module is designed to integrate visual, motion, direction, and sound data, which will allow robots to interpret and interact with their environments more effectively. Additionally, the system is expected to address the issue of image distortion that occurs due to movement, thereby improving the reliability of robotic vision.
In parallel, the two companies are working on a tactile sensing module, which is expected to mimic the functions of human skin. This development will enable robots to sense touch and pressure through various parts of their structure, such as hands, arms, and bodies. The tactile module is also anticipated to be ready by 2027, marking a significant milestone in enhancing the sensory capabilities of robots.
LG Innotek views this collaboration as a key opportunity to fortify its standing in the expanding robotics market. The company aims to broaden its range of AI sensing technologies, which currently includes cameras, lidar, radar, and tactile sensors.
