South Korea has achieved its highest position in the FIFA women’s world rankings in over three years, climbing to 17th place. This improvement comes after the national team secured a bronze medal at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. The team’s performance at the Games saw them defeat China 1-0 in the third-place match after a 2-0 semifinal loss to hosts Japan.

Returning to 17th marks a notable rise for South Korea, who advanced two places from their previous ranking. The last time they held this position was in June 2023. In the Asian region, South Korea is now ranked fourth, trailing Japan in fifth place, North Korea in 12th, and Australia in 15th. Meanwhile, China has dropped to 18th place in the global rankings.

The bronze medal victory at the Asian Games was a significant achievement for South Korea, marking their first in eight years. Additionally, the win over China was their first in 11 years, highlighting the team’s progress and growing competitiveness on the international stage.

Globally, Spain continues to hold the top spot in the FIFA women’s rankings, followed by the United States, Germany, England, and Japan. FIFA is set to release its final women’s world rankings for the year on December 7.
